At age 17, Gary Lessord holds the portrait he did of President Richard Nixon that was presented to him in the oval office of the White House. It is now in the permanent collection of the Nixon Presidential Library in San Clemente, California. Click here to see the thank you letter sent from President Nixon to Gary in 1971.
Behind Gary on the wall is a framed personal letter from President John Kennedy expressing his sympathy to Gary's family at the passing of his father when Gary was nine years old. Both Gary's father and President Kennedy served in the South Pacific during World War II.
